Why would I want to do Pilates on a one to one basis?

A question we get asked lots in the studio is, “Why would I want to do Pilates on a one to one basis when you've so many great group classes on the timetable and it’s so much more expensive for a one to one session?”

The truth is, that one to one sessions are very specific to you. Group classes aren't. That really is the massive difference.

An example of the power of an individual specific approach is when Susan came into see me for her hip problem, she's a hockey player and was getting lots of issues with her hip that meant she was having to spend more time on the bench than the pitch. She needed to get back on the pitch and - by the time I saw her she was frustrated. Susan came in, had an individual approach to her training and the results... well why don't you take a moment to hear from Susan herself

She got an individual plan and got back on the pitch! It's important I'm clear should - Susan did have to put in the work - she did need to do her rehab - not just come in for one session.

Another is Margaret - Margaret is one of those clients I love to get - she took everything onboard and did it. She came in with back pain that she had suffered with for 20 years! And was also getting shoulder pain.  She took the advise, and attends a combination of group classes and privates and honestly her results give me goosebumps... she had reached that point in her life - she was sick of being sore, allowing that pain to stop her doing what she loved (walking).

If you want to hear how margaret has been getting on - you can hear from Margaret in her own words.

Group classes are great, but let's face it they are general, they'll cover the full body and are not specific, to maybe an injury or an area that you’re maybe wanting to work on.  If you have injuries then definitely you should be getting some one to one sessions to ensure you get the desired results.

How often you have your one to one sessions, is quite a difficult one to answer, because it depends on so many factors. But generally speaking if you have injuries you should be incorporating some one to one in there if you truly want to get that injury fixed, and most importantly - out of pain.

It's also important to note the attention and focus that’s on you. Our teachers truly are fabulous trainers - we very much have a culture of CPD, all focused with the clients best interest at heart.

The amount of time and dedication and hard work, blood, sweat, tears that's gone in to hone the skill of the eye and the teaching, understanding the body and understanding what you need.

That is what you’re paying for. You’re paying for the years of experience.

That's it!. It’s all about you. It is so focused on what your body is needing, not what the masses need.

Some of you, may want to learn faster. I know my personality when I join a class, I just want to get in there and get on with it. I can’t be bothered with that learning curve that you've to go through.

In our studio in Glasgow we've the Pilates Reformer Beginners Course - this is how you start.

One to one sessions, you definitely move through that fundamental process faster. And did I say... faster results!

You get results at a much faster rate than someone who is coming and doing classes. Because it’s so general, it’s attention to detail, we’ve obviously got our eyes on lots of people, not just one, so you only get a certain level of time on your body. We're very hands on,  and are very tactile in the group classes as well. Depending on your studio, where you train, they may not be. So it really does depend what studio you attend.

And I would say, last but not least, is the progression, how you progress from where you start to where you’re wanting to go, is at a completely different level.

One to one sessions are all about you, all about your body, all about what you’re needing. We're  training you, we’re training the person, we’re training the body. We’re not just taking you through a series of exercises.

We're specifically choosing movements that your body needs, so it’s very specific. You move through things a lot faster and your results are effectively a lot faster.

This is why I would recommend that everybody should be at least getting some one to one sessions.

If you have no injuries you should still be getting some check in sessions, whether it's a half hour checkup or a full hour every month or so.

Invest that time, if you’re serious about your own practice and your results, then it really is worth every single penny of investment.

If you are interested in training with any of our teachers please get in touch or book. We have a live online diary - you can see all our teachers in there and see their diary. It's so easy to use.
